(PDF with photos) May 31, 2018 - Federalsburg Elementary School recently celebrated the opening of their brand-new scooter track for pre-kindergarten students.
The plan for the track was developed last year when then-principal Nicole VonDenBosch and assistant principal Brian Yates were walking around the school to see what improvements needed to be made. Yates said they noticed the pre-kindergarten students having to ride their scooters during recess near the school dumpsters. "We knew something better had to happen."
With donations from a number of school and community organizations and businesses, a new figure eight concrete track was built for the pre-kindergarten students.
Even though rain prevented festivities outside, a ceremony inside the gym included Federalsburg grants administrator George "Happy" Mayer cutting a ribbon and pronouncing the track open.
Pre-Kindergarten teacher Debra Jones said the new track makes it easier for the teachers and assistants to monitor the students during recess and to assess their gross motor skills.
Current principal Dr. Yolanda Holloway expressed her appreciation to the donors, and said the school depends on its community partners. "Our community partners are an extension of us."
Partners who made donations toward the track are:
• Atrium Windows and Doors
• Federalsburg Lions Club
• Federalsburg PTA
• Federalsburg Assembly Committee
• Idlewild Ruritan Club
