(PDF with photos) April 18, 2018 – The Greensboro Elementary Girls Running Club participated in the Adkins Arboretum Annual Arbor Day Run/Walk which benefits the Arboretum’s goat herd. The club, and their extended Greensboro family, was well represented with over 40 runners, students, teachers, and family members either running the race or cheering on the participants.
The Girls Running Club was created in the spring of 2016 by school counselor Angela Webster. “I wanted to bring a running club to the school as a way to promote goal setting, good health, self-esteem building, and community involvement,” Ms. Webster stated. “The girls loved that the Atkins Arboretum race benefited goats!” Since its beginning in 2016, the club has nearly doubled in size with 32 students currently participating.
Participants met twice a week after school for eight weeks prior to this particular race. In addition to Webster, teachers Jessica Andres, Tracey Walton, and Marjorie Bast helped with training. In addition, many staff members partnered with the girls for the race.
