CCTC Teacher Recognized at National Future Farmers of America Convention

Jodi Callahan, Agri-Business teacher at the Caroline Career and Technology Center (CCTC), was recently honored by the National Future Farmers of America (FFA) Alumni Association during the National FFA Convention held in Indianapolis.

The National FFA Alumni Association currently has 344,239 members across the nation donating their time and even finances to support current FFA members. This year at the 90th National FFA Convention and Expo, the FFA Alumni awarded three alumni members for their outstanding support of the National FFA Organization. Callahan was one of the three recognized.

"We all know what outstanding work Mrs. Callahan has done with the growth of the CASE program and the FFA student and alumni organization," said CCTC Principal Gene Smith. "It is really nice to see others taking notice of what she has been able to accomplish."

Callahan has been teaching at CCTC for five years. Callahan realized the FFA chapter needed community support after building the CASE Animal program, which increased FFA participation. In response, Callahan helped establish an alumni chapter.

Two years after its creation, Callahan's alumni chapter was able to financially support the FFA chapter and provide scholarships for students. Callahan now works with alumni to help them train Career Development Event (CDE) teams, provide job shadowing and internship opportunities and organize fundraising to support student travel to convention. She serves as the Maryland FFA Board of Directors Region V FFA Coordinator.

"We are very proud of Mrs. Callahan and all that she has accomplished with her students and program at Caroline County," said Terri Shank, Maryland FFA Executive Director.

The National FFA Organization provides leadership, personal growth and career success training through agricultural education to 653,359 student members who belong to one of 8,568 local FFA chapters throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
