Board News from May 2017 Board of Education Meeting

Members of the Federalsburg Elementary School Stars Talent Club led the Pledge of Allegiance during the May 2, 2017 Board of Education meeting.








Caroline County Public Schools pupil personnel workers were recognized for all their hard work in helping Caroline County Public School students. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has proclaimed the week of May 15-19 as Pupil Personnel Worker Week in Maryland. The Caroline County Board of Education recognized the two Student Representatives from Colonel Richardson High and North Caroline High. Sara Cossette Schulties, North Caroline High School, was recognized for being the Maryland General Assembly Student Page from Caroline County Public Schools. Schulties spent two weeks in the Maryland General Assembly during the recent term. From left: Superintendent of Schools Dr. Patricia Saelens, Board Vice President Tolbert Rowe and Schulties.





North Caroline High Schools' Wrestling Team was recognized for their successes as a team and individuals this past season. The team ended first in the region for the fourth year in a row. Recognized were: Brett Blue, Ryan Hinkle, Reilly McIntyre, Ryan Bauer, Cody Groves, Brooke Markell, Rhian Silsley, Brandon McIntyre, Dylan Saathoff, Brandon Hardesty, Gabriel Neville-Martin, Lewis Stutzman, Seth Layton, Travis Orendorf, Trenton Hillard, Cody Holder, Tyler Reilly, Tyler Bauer, Alex Grable, Martin Rivera, Alex Eaton, Noah Schall, Jarrett Cooper and Bradley Cruikshank, Managers: Mikaela Walton, Caitlyn McCormick, Caroline Lednum and Madi Beatty, Coaches: Tim Frey, Robin Eaton, Daryl Silsley, Donovan Hollingsworth and Keith Bauer.


Members of North Caroline High Schools' Future Business Leaders of America team were recognized at the May Board of Education meeting for placing at the State Conference. Students recognized were: Brad Cruikshank, Katie DePasquale, Eli Canade, Brett Schreyer, Jessica Bowdle, Shelby Veil, Kylie Phillips, Jasmonet Fletcher, Yasmeen Johnson, Juddy Reyes, Tony Figueroa, Maya Brannon, Caitlyn McCormick, Hannah Brewster, Caroline Lednum, Retu Dominic, Alyssa George, Jose Fuentes, Isis Broussard, Aliyah Bair, Cosette Schulties, Sarah Ferkler, Haily McNinch, Alexa Lawton.

  North Caroline High School and the Class of 2017 was recognized by the Board of Education for sponsoring the successful Blue Dress Run. Over $2,000 was raised to go to the Caroline Counseling Center Addiction Program.







Greensboro Elementary School was recognized by the Board of Education for achieving Green School Status. Tamara Quidas, a GES teacher, was recognized along with students in the schools environmental club.





Beth Brewster, Supervisor of Food Service & Director, Chesapeake Culinary Center, was recognized by the Board of Education for her dedicated and outstanding service to Caroline County Public Schools and for being recognized by and appearing on Fair Farms Maryland program.






The Board of Education heard an update on the recently ended Maryland General Assembly session.


The Board of Education tabled voting on the the revised Student School Assignment policy and will vote on the policy at the next Board of Education meeting.

The Board of Education approved the following items:

  • Colonel Richardson High School roof replacement - The Board accepted the bid from Flynn Mid Atlantic for the base bid of $2,025,672 for the roof replacement of Colonel Richardson High School. The Colonel Richardson High School roof replacement project was approved for funding by the Interagency Committee (IAC) of the Public School Construction Program (PSCP) as part of our FY18 Capital Improvement Program.  This project will begin as soon as the students and staff leave for the summer with substantial completion occurring by August 15, 2017.  The bid process and procedures complied with Board policy and applicable state laws and regulations. 
  • Overnight Field Trip Request - North Caroline High School Educators Rising - The Educators Rising students will be attending the Educators Rising National Conference in Phoenix, Arizona from June 23, 2017 through June 26, 2017.
  • Overnight Field Trip Request - North Caroline High School Future Business Leaders of America - The FBLA students will travel to Anaheim California on June 28 – July 3, 2017, to perform at the Disneyland Resort.  Students participating in this trip will be in competing in business-related events in addition to attending leadership workshops.
