Members of Denton Boy Scout Troop 165 along with their Troop Leader and Board of Education Vice President Walter Palmer III led the board meeting in the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Caroline County Board of Education voted to eliminate four of the delayed openings for the elementary schools in the 2016-2017 school year calendar. Superintendent of Schools Mr. John Ewald said after the calendar was approved with nine delayed openings, he heard from parents about the hardships the delays caused families. There were four delays put in the school calendar for the 2015-2016 school year in order to give elementary teachers more planning time.
The board approved keeping the two-hour scheduled delays for elementary students on September 21, 2016, October 19, 2016, February 15, 2017 and May 17, 2017. The scheduled delay for January 17, 2017 will be a two-hour delay for elementary and middle school students only. January 17 is a high school transition day, so high school students will not report to school on that date.
In other action, the board approved the appointment of Dr. Kari Clow as the new principal of Preston Elementary School. Clow replaces Dr. Lois McCoy, who has been named administrator in charge of alternative programs. Dr. Clow has served as Assistant Principal at Preston since 2012.
The Board also approved the following items:
- Custodial Supplies Bid
- Food Services Bid for milk
- New high school textbook for health - Comprehensive Health: 1st Edition 2015, by Catherine Sanderson, Mark Zelman, Melanie Lynch and Melissa Munsell; Goodheart-Willcox Company, Inc.
