Ten North Caroline High School students participated in the schools first Poetry Out Loud competition on Tuesday, November 24. The students recited two poems during the competition.
Emily Smith, an 11th grade student, won the competition by reciting "Not Horses" by Natalie Shapero and "Dirge in Woods" by George Meredith. Lynn Kirby, also an 11th grader, was chosen as the alternate. She recited "Say not the Struggle naught Availeth" by Arthur Hugh Clough and "Love Lives Byond the Tomb" by John Clare.
Smith will compete in the regional competition to be held in February. The other students who competed were: Thara Jones, Elizabeth Criss, Donovan Beck, Elizabeth Moore, Jamar Reedy, Forest Geisel, Sunyata Courie and Alexandria Penn.
