Six Colonel Richardson High School students participated in the schools annual Poetry Out Loud competition on Thursday, November 19.
Each student had to recite two poems, one had to have 25 lines or fewer and the other had to be a pre-20th century poem. Students were judged on physical presence, voice and articulation, dramatic appropriateness, evidence of understanding, overall performance and accuracy.
The winner of the competition was Kaitlyn Wilson. She will compete at the regional competition. The alternate was Jacob Sauers. Wilson won by reciting the following poems: "The Cross of Snow" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and "The Delta" by Bruce Bond. Sauers recited "Concord Hymn" by Ralph Waldo Emerson and "America" by Claude McKay. The four other participants were Shania Garcia, Destiny Woodward, Madison Bee and Doug Walls.
