The Caroline County Board of Education is one step closer to announcing the next superintendent of schools.
Over the past several months, the board, with the assistance of the Maryland Association of Boards of Education, has undergone an extensive process that included reviewing over a dozen applications from across the state and country, and conducting interviews with several candidates.
At this point in the process, the board is pleased to announce their two finalists for further consideration:
- John D. Ewald, current superintendent of the Laurel School District in Laurel, Delaware.
- Patricia Saelens, current assistant superintendent of instruction for Caroline County Public Schools.
Mr. Ewald and Dr. Saelens are scheduled to meet next week with multiple stakeholder and focus groups, assembled specifically for this process from across Caroline County. Participants meeting with the finalists will be asked to provide their observations to the board of education.
Tolbert Rowe, president of the board, said, "The board is appreciative of stakeholders taking the time to meet with the finalists. We anticipate the process concluding and the new superintendent being in place by July 1st."
The biographies of both candidates are attached.
