Caroline County Public Schools receives federal grant to expand pre-kindergarten to full day at two elementary schools

Caroline County Public Schools will offer full day pre-kindergarten at Federalsburg and Greensboro Elementary schools beginning in September 2015. The school system was able to make the change to all day pre-kindergarten through a $500,000 federal pre-kindergarten expansion grant.

“Many of the children go between two programs and now they will stay in one place,” said Supervisor of Instruction Dr. Susan Harman. The all day classes will help the most at risk pre-kindergarteners be better-prepared and ready for kindergarten.

Students qualify for the full day pre-kindergarten classes at Federalsburg and Greensboro by income. When registering their children, parents must show proof of income at the two schools. Parents can provide one of the following: W-2’s for parents in the household; pay stubs showing a month’s worth of income; or a self-documented income worksheet that must be notarized.

Half-day pre-kindergarten classes will not be offered at Federalsburg and Greensboro, but will be offered at Denton, Ridgely and Preston Elementary Schools.

Any child whose birthday is on or after September 2, 2010 and on or before September 1, 2011 may request to enroll in pre-kindergarten.  This is the first year that schools will be doing combined registrations, except at Greensboro Elementary. Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten registration will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the following dates listed by school:

  • Greensboro Elementary @ Greensboro Elementary Monday, March 23
  • Denton & Ridgely Elementary @ Denton Elementary Thursday, March 26
  • Federalsburg & Preston Elementary @ Federalsburg Elementary Friday, March 27

Information needed at the time of registration: proof of residence in Caroline County, child’s birth certificate, social security number, immunization record, blood lead results and copy of physical exam performed after January 1st. The pre-kindergarten registration form is available on the school system website http://www.cl.k12.md.us
